Traction Control
To compensate for the slippery lunar field this year, The Shermanator is programmed to mimic traction control. Instead of setting the motor instantly at the speed of the joystick, this system builds up to speed to have optimal traction and to keep from spinning out of control.
Quick Assemble Chassis
Unlike other robots, this year Frog Force can assemble and dissemble the robot in under ten minutes. Made of 40 pieces, the connectors fit inside the aluminum tubes like lego pieces. Gussets and screws help to keep the robot secure. Our team no longer needs an experienced welder to put our robot together.
Shooter
Designed to shoot one moon rock per second, The Shermanator works like a baseball pitcher. It sweeps up the moon rocks, travels up the Archimedes spiral, and shoots at 22˚ 0 - 15 feet. Assisted by the Fine Tune Aiming System the shooter is able locate other trailers and pitch the ball perfectly every time.
Fine Tune Airing
The Shermanator is equipped with a fine tune aiming system for 2009. The turret driver’s glasses are programmed in conjunction with the camera on the robot. When the camera turret is aimed at an opponent’s trailer, a red LED light will blink on the glasses. Then the distance of the opponent’s trailer and the necessary speed of our brushes are calculated and glasses indicate “Go Time” by blinking green once they are locked on. With this sophisticated aiming system, The Shermanator holds no room for mistakes.
Watch out for the Shermanator at Cass Tech, West Michigan, the State Championships, and Atlanta!
